Finance Committee Minutes 02/02/05
Finance Committee Meeting
Town of Tolland, MA
February 2, 2005

In Attendance: Ralph Ledger, Mira Munson, Margaret McClelland, and  Ted Locke.
Absent: David Barney

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 P.M. by the Chair, Ralph Ledger.

The committee reviewed all additional budgets that had been received to date with little comment.

Margaret informed us that Sandisfield requested $4500 per year for 10 years as payment toward the ambulance.  Ted Locke informed us that the regional school budget currently reflects a 7% increase but assured us the school committee was working toward achieving a 6% increase.  Discussion of the status of plans for a new Town Garage also occurred.  More information about this will be available shortly.

John Paneia, Tolland Road Supervisor, stopped in at the meeting to ask if he should put in for a new truck.  A discussion ensued on the age and state of the department’s vehicles.  It was recommended that John ask for one single axle truck.  Margaret suggested that perhaps this be done at the upcoming March Special Town Meeting as it will take 8 months to get a truck after it is ordered.  John agreed to discuss this with the Selectmen.

Discussion of equipment continued and it was recommended that John develop a capital budget for the next five years and submit this with his annual budget request so that the Finance Committee could get a handle on capital needs and could develop a sensible recommendation for the selectmen that would not leave us with most equipment old or in disrepair all at once.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 P.M.

Respectfully submitted,

Mira K. Munson, Secretary
